Following the college I got married and we went to Kirkwall and I was also relief ATCO/Airfield manager at Wick. Orkney was a bit of a culture shock after London, it was like being transported back to the Fifties! In late ‘79 we went to Glasgow where the mix of traffic made it a good working environment and I ended up as a Watch Manager but in 1996 NATS Management decided to downgrade the airfield to an Atco 3 unit so not wishing to accept demotion I moved to Scatcc as an en-route radar controller where I remained until I retired in 2007.
